Each surgery requires a different set of tools, just like any other medical procedure. Most surgical instruments fall under the category of reusable equipment, however some other equipment is only intended for one use. Almost all of the equipment used in surgical procedures is sterile and will be packaged; consequently, it must only be handled by scrubbed personnel.
At Gesco Healthcare, we manufacture various types of surgical instruments for different use cases and specializations. With the most recent technical developments, our instrument selection is constantly being updated and expanded. We take pride in providing state-of-the-art surgical equipment at affordable, value-oriented prices.
Types of surgical instrument categories:
The majority of our surgical tools can be utilized for general surgery in a lab setting for study.
Surgical Instruments can be loosely classified by function:
- Scissors, surgical blades, knives, and scalpels are examples of cutting implements.
- Instruments for grasping or holding include tissue forceps and hemostatic forceps.
- Retractors are tools that keep incisions open or hold an organ (or tissue) out of the way.
At Gesco Healthcare, we also carry a wide variety of accessories, which contain all the extras required for surgery, in addition to surgical tools. These include drills, sutures, binocular loupes, biopsy punches, huge towel clamps, delicate vascular clips, bulldog clamps, and more.
Cutting Instruments:
Usually, the edges or tips of these devices are sharp enough to cut through suture material, skin, and tissue. In order to study abnormal growths and remove hazardous or damaged tissue, surgeons must cut and dissect tissue. These tools have one or two blades that are razor sharp. To prevent injuries, nurses and other medical staff must regularly check these instruments before use to see if they need to be sharpened or replaced.
Clamping:
Equipment that are frequently used in surgical procedures to compress hollow organs or blood vessels to stop their contents from leaking. To occlude is to shut or close. As a result, these tools are also used to stop bleeding. They have a variety of inner jaw patterns and can be straight, curved, or angled.
Grappling Devices
Ring forceps (also known as hemostats, hemostatic forceps, and locking forceps) and thumb forceps are two general forms of surgical forceps (frequently called tweezers or pinning forceps).
Retractors
Retractors hold a cut or wound open while exposing what is underneath by holding an organ or tissue out of the way. Retractors must be held by either an assistant or the surgeon throughout an operation. Self-retaining retractors enable for hands-free surgeries by gripping tissue during surgery with a mechanical device. Self-retaining retractors can hold the tissue by themselves thanks to a screw, ratchet, or other sort of clamp. These provide the surgeon two extra hands to work with. The most basic type of retractor is a wire retractor. The wire typically has some spring to allow the surgeon to squeeze, place, and release it. Additionally, they release the surgeon’s hands.
Other surgical instruments include:
Towel clips (for attaching things onto drapes) akin to small forceps that hold together different sections of the drape material used to cover a patient during operations.
Hammers of various shapes, most often used in orthopedics for driving nails into bone, or alongside a chisel in amputations
Drills – cordless battery-operated drills are used to drive screws into bone and also create boreholes in the skull during neurosurgery
Saws: these come in both battery-operated and manual versions, such as the Gigli saw, commonly used in amputations
Dilators: blunt probe-like instruments used for dilating the soft tissue .
Kerrison Punch The Kerrison Punch is available in two different angles – 45 degree and 90 degree and varying in up tip and down tip. We have different shaft varieties like bayonet shaft for MIS and curved shaft for amniotomy. We even offer thin foot plate Kerrision Punch.
Curette: We have a very wide range of stapes hand instruments like SCHUKNECHT needle angled shaft, SCHUKNECHT pick down angled shaft, SCHUKNECHT pick up angled shaft and more.
Retractor: Micro lumbar (MLD) retractor is used in lumbar surgery and are offered in both hinged and unhinged varities with 4 blades and 2 hooks. It covers different anatomies involved in various lumbar surgeries.
Types of Materials Used:
When choosing a material that is used during a surgery, there are numerous factors to take into account. After all, the wrong material decision could have terrible repercussions. We examine which metals are utilized for surgical equipment.
Most surgical instruments are made of the following metals:
- Titanium – The next most popular metal is titanium, which has more strength and is perfect for orthopedic implants since it bonds with bone quickly.
- Stainless steel – Stainless steel in its various forms is the most often used material since it is generally affordable, accessible, and useful in most applications.
- Tantalum – Due to its characteristics, tantalum is a great material for surgical equipment.
- Platinium & Palladium – The precious metals, platinum, and palladium are the last group. Although they are rarely used in a medical context because of their high cost, these are the best for small, precise tools and parts.
